Tumblr,

Earlier today we announced to the press that we are running a beta test program for Post+, Tumblr’s newest add-on subscription tool. Post+ is a completely optional tool that will allow creators to make some of their posts exclusive to their paid subscribers. You can read more about it right over here on our @postplus Tumblr. This feature is being tested by a small group of incredible creators on Tumblr.

We want to hear about what you like, what you love, and what concerns you. Even if it’s not very nice. Tell us. We can take it. We WANT that feedback. It helps us make Tumblr better.

What we won’t ever accept is the targeted harassment and threats these creators have endured since this afternoon. These creators are some of the most talented people around, and all they’re doing is testing out a feature. These are the people who graciously agreed to pilot a program to help us discover bugs before we open it up to all creators. These are the humans who are testing a feature that we hope will soon help thousands of Tumblr creators feel empowered, get rewarded for their efforts, and find support within their community.

Our Community Guidelines are clear: Don’t engage in targeted abuse, bullying, or harassment.

Anyone in violation of these guidelines will be dealt with swiftly and will be forced to contend with the appropriate consequences. It’s okay to tell us how you feel. It’s not okay to bully someone because you disagree with their choices.

I agree that the harassment was definitely unjustified. However, this post+ stuff seems kinda garbage tbh.

So lemme get this straight:

Izaya Orihara was jealous of Shizuo and constantly antagonized Shizuo to the point where Shizuo just snapped and beat Izaya with the intent to kill him but instead beat him so badly that Izaya has to use a wheelchair now but they're the most popular ship in the fandom

VS

Tom, who's done nothing but good for Shizuo, has learned what triggers Shizuo, knows how to calm him, is always there for him, could have manipulated him but didn't because he's one of the only people who knows that deep down, Shizuo is a caring guy, got beat up and refused to call him for help because he knows Shizuo hates fighting and violence, gave Shizuo a job when he was at a low point in his life and tries to stray him from using violence against the people they have to kind of enforce and intimidate for their job, pays for all of the damage Shizuo causes with no problem and doesn't take it from Shizuo's pay, always buys Shizuo food, and has been nothing but a pillar of calmness and kindness is Shizuo's life, yet I have to scrape around for Shizuo x Tom content ?

Either the Durarara fandom just has an obsession with toxic relationships or you guys just choose to ignore Tom because what kind of fuckery is this ???

Edit: MIGHT I ADD THAT THAT LOW POINT IN SHIZUO'S LIFE WAS CAUSED BY IZAYA, GOT HIM ARRESTED FOR SHIT THAT HE DIDN'T DO AND MADE HIM LOSE HIS JOB AND BREAK HIS PROMISE TO KASUKA BUT TOM WAS RIGHT THERE TO LIFT HIM UP ?!?

Tell Nancy Pelosi to save Internet privacy before it’s too late

Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act is up for renewal once more, and leadership in Congress seems determined to allow American law enforcement and intelligence agencies to violate Americans’ privacy and waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on invasive and ineffective surveillance programs. But a new bipartisan amendment from Senators Ron Wyden (D–OR) and Steve Daines (R–MT) would stop the government from spying on your Internet activities without a warrant.

As Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has the power to force a vote on the Wyden-Daines amendment. But she needs to hear that other congressional lawmakers and thousands of people just like me and you support this important privacy protection.

Fight for the Future is joining forces with other human rights organizations and tech companies for a massive day of action next Tuesday, May 26th, encouraging millions of people across America to contact Congress in support of this common-sense privacy amendment.

Visit SaveInternetPrivacy.org where you can:

  • Learn more about the day of action on May 26th
  • Send a letter to Congress in support of the Wyden-Daines amendment
  • Read the open letter signed by more than 50 companies and organizations, including DuckDuckGo, the ACLU, and Fight for the Future

We also encourage everyone to call 1 (202) 930-8115 now and every day until the House of Representatives votes on the Wyden-Daines amendment. We’ll provide you with a script of what to say, then connect you with Nancy Pelosi’s office, as well as the offices of your Congressional lawmakers.

🚨First, the bad news: Congress is on the verge of reactivating the Patriot Act, threatening the privacy of anyone who uses the internet.🚨 Now, the good news: You can help by calling your rep to express your support for the Wyden-Daines amendment that will limit government access to your internet browsing and history without a warrant. Check out our pals Fight for the Future’s (@fight4future) day of action on Tuesday, May 26 for how you can get involved.

A better, more positive Tumblr

staff

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.
